samguthrie1 - Who Am I?

About Who Am I?

Previous Entry Who Am I? Mar. 15th, 2008 @ 11:25 pm Next Entry
Are you sure you want to know?  If someone told you I was just an average, ordinary guy without a care in the world...

...someone lied.

Okay, Spider-Man reference aside, here's what I'm trying to do.  I know that there are a few of you here on LJ who are probably a little wary of me because I've come off as an anonymous individual.   The reason I've usually kept a low profile on myself is due mainly for personal security.  I'm sure a lot of you are good people, but in this day and age, you never know.

Now, after a lot of thinking and pondering, I think it's time that I give the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, because...well, I'd just like some of you out there to trust me:

- My name is Chris McAvey.

 - I am 23 years old.

- I was born and raised in the state of New York.

- I was a senior over at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, and now I am a grad school student at Queens College.

- I am an avid Marvel Comics geek.  Spider-Man is my top favorite, although I have an affinity for the Lesser-Knowns of the Marvel Universe.

- I enjoy music ranging from the 1950s up to and including the 1980s.

- I do not believe in such concepts as "cool" or "popular," and I don't follow "fads" either.

- I am a non-drinker, non-smoker, and I do NOT take drugs.

- I do not believe in being "accepted" by socially high-standing individuals in order to get ahead, because time has shown that it never works out.

- Things like politics and economics are not my strongest subjects.  To me, they're far too complex and dangerous to get involved with.

- I am not a believer in "the system."

- I consider myself an enemy of "the man."

 - In my "career" as a geek, I've stood shoulder-to-shoulder with some "Big Name" individuals, some of whom include...

Director Sam Raimi, the man who gave us the Spider-Man and Evil Dead trilogies.

Matthew Atherton, aka Feedback from "Who Wants to be a Superhero?"

Mitch Breitweiser, illustrator for the recent "Captain America: The Chosen" mini-series.

- I've never traveled outside of the United States, although I have gone to Niagara Falls twice.

- The farthest I've ever been from home was when I went to Los Angeles, California after I graduated from high school (a well-deserved trip, I might add).

- I'm sorry if this is gonna offend some people, but -- I don't consider rap, remixes, hip-hop, or any of these current trends to be "music."  To me, it's all just the same thing, only rehashed six ways from Sunday.  I can't find anything original in any of it.

- I watch a lot of TV.  I play older video games.  I even watch cartoons, if you can believe it.

- I've made my fair share of mistakes over the years, I'll admit it.  I'm not perfect, and I don't pretend to be either.

- I've never been in a relationship.  I've never had a girlfriend, never been on any dates or gone to any proms, and I've never been kissed.  If this doesn't spell "total loser," I don't know what does.

- A number of films have had a profound effect on my life, including "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Network," and "Animal House."

- I believe that health is important to maintain, but when people start making it a mandatory requirement (i.e. high-school gym class), it takes the fun out of it.

- I believe that summer is a time when one should be able to escape the daily grind.  Things like paperwork, research assignments, and Summer Reading projects should have no place in one's summer schedule.

Well, I've said all I'm going to say.  Now, I want to hear from you, my fellow LJers.

No problem. 'Sides, I saw you were a fellow Spidey geek and thought it'd be a good idea to have you aboard.

Btw, be sure to check out my Spider-Man balloon campaign if you get the chance. I need all of the support that I can get with it.

This is a great post and I'm glad we befriended each other.
You and I have a lot in common like no smoking, drinking, or drugs and we both like TV.

Hey, I found you via a comment you left in [info]comicsfan's LJ, and you seem cool, and your LJ makes you appear v. interesting. Mind if I friend? I dunno how we'd get on - most of my LJ friends tend to be fellow gays, this is my geeky-queer-safe-space it appears, so I'll try and be constructive and not comment on the fact you're cute! awkward comments ftw.

I know, I just like people to know what they're getting themselves into. ;) I mean, you compare yourself to Spiderman - how the heck can the world resist??

I am also happy to catch you on IM if you ever need company or chat. :)

Plus it's the first Terminator flick without "Ah-nuld"...and we get to the War against the Machines for the first time.

Hopefully it will be more than just blam-blam explosions and twist-centric effects scenes...more of a Spiderman 1 and 2 than 3...or X-Men 1 or 2 than 3....what is it about third movies??

Hee! I didn't see this entry before. Very cool!

BTW, do you moderate the posts for the "geek" group" I think I tried posting but it didn't show up. Not sure if the internet ate it or.... what. O_O
