I got caught up with all my TV watching. Enjoyed the Mentalist, Jane was spectacular in this episode. Loved Glee. Rachel needs to learn that there are other members of the glee club that can sing. Quin needs to get off of Fin's back and should be responsible for half of her medical bills. This was Artie's episode and he rocked. Got to see a new layer to Sue, very surprising.

Good TV watching this week but it's not over until I watch Smallville tonight. May the goodness continue.

School is getting harder and harder. We have genetics, microbiology, biochemistry & biology right now. Biochemistry & genetics are going to be a problem, the other subjects shouldn't be. We also have to take care of some of the school's animals the next few weeks. They have goats, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs, but my class was lucky so we got the rats. :/ I wish we had the goats they are fun. Rats are relatively low maintenance though, but because they're official testing animals there are a lot of laws and regulations concerned with them.

Oh check the genetics internet toolbox thingie:
Aliens! XD  )

Today I checked the X-men Origins: Wolverine dvd in the shop and discovered they misspelled Hugh's last name as 'Jackmann' on the cover. Seriously, how dumb can you be?

I watched the first three episodes of Dexter. [info]dutchxfan recommended the series to me a long time ago already and I felt like checking it out last week. Not sure if I like it though. I'll have to see more to form an opinion.

Nation X #1 will have a Kurt & Logan story. I have a Kurt & Logan drabble too. It's not finished yet though. I want it done before Marvel publishes theirs :)
Horror Vacuum? Yeah I'll be working on that too. It's just that school is taking up a lot of time right now & inspiration doesn't come easy at my parent's place.

Oh and I really like Necrosha so far :)

If you could choose one super-power, what would it be and why?

While there are plenty of super powers that would be marvelous, if I had the choice of only one, it would be a toss-up. Super inventive intellect would be great, because then I could simulate any number of super-powers simply by inventing a device for them. And make the world a better place in the process, enabling us to make technological leaps.

Yes, Virginia, you would get your flying car. And your personal jetpack. Mind the insurance.

Failing that I'd take the ability to reassign body mass. All of those terrifyingly skinny girls who whine because they can't lose weight? I could fix that. And I know entirely too many of us who would give just about anything (save strenuous diet and exercise, and some even do that to no avail) to lose some pounds. I could fix that too. Safe boobjobs, breast reductions, take a few inches off the hips, round out that ass, all in the snap of my fingers.

I'd be rich off the Oprah contract alone. And heaven help whoever pisses me off.

When filling out the application here, it's difficult to think of everything that might be considered a dorky interest at that specific time. I never mentioned it in either of my stabs at t'old community application, but the BBC website has just reminded me of one interest: carnivorous plants. How are they interesting, I hear you ask? One, they're a curious reversal of the usual food chain. Two, they're carnivorous, so if they haven't already raised the misguided ire of the loathsome terrorists that call themselves PETA, I'd be very surprised. And three, the Venus Fly Trap was of particular interest to Charles Darwin, that celebrated thorn in the side of the creationist cult. I'm not into gardening at all, but if I was, I'd be planning a garden full of them - although to ensure they were all well-fed I'd probably have to move to somewhere with a larger number of flying insects. Finland, maybe - because the many, many lakes are all infested with mosquitoes.

I was on one of those "three hours of fascinated clicking" marathons on the BBC website when I found an article that would make Darwin set his beard on fire with excitement; the origins of the Venus Fly Trap have finally been explained in its rapid evolution from sticky-leafed plants such as the sundew (also mentioned in that article). I was unaware of the waterwheel plant, which has the same common ancestor, so finding that was an added bonus.

Pitcher plants are almost as fascinating as Venus Fly Traps, and who'd have thought it: christian missionaries actually have a use! They reported an unusually large pitcher plant while on a mountain hike in the Phillippines, and are now probably sitting back and smouldering with self-righteous indignation as a team of botanists took over to learn more about them - and went far more prepared for the job than the missionaries did. Good job they did, as the new species were 1,600 metres above sea level, and were large enough to swallow a rat. Think about that if you have a pet hamster. Discovering some strange blue fungi on the way must have been a bonus for them as well.

And finally, for those of you who read my Iceland review (specifically day six), then number of jellyfish I saw on the boat to and from Hrísey made me wonder if anything eats them for dinner. And, hot off the press, the news is: there's a species of coral in the Red Sea that does, and has been caught in the act of doing so. All we need now is evidence that there's something out there that eats Irukandji or box jellyfish, and that'll be the most satisfying act of revenge since the first appearance of the mongoose.
